Ledger® Live: Login | Getting Started™ — Step‑by‑Step Guide

Clear, secure steps to sign in, recover access, and start managing your crypto with Ledger Live.

Introduction

What this guide covers

This presentation walks you through everything a new or returning user needs to log into Ledger Live. You’ll learn how to install Ledger Live, connect a Ledger hardware device, unlock the app, recover your accounts safely, and confirm basic troubleshooting tips. Every step focuses on security-first practices — because with crypto, the right habits matter.

Why use Ledger Live?

Ledger Live is the official desktop and mobile companion for Ledger hardware wallets. It provides a single place to manage multiple crypto accounts, update firmware, access apps, and send or receive tokens while keeping private keys offline on your device.

Before you begin

What you need

Security reminder

Ledger Live will never ask for your 24‑word recovery phrase. If prompted anywhere to type your recovery phrase into software or a website, stop immediately. Use official Ledger channels for downloads and support.

Step 1 — Download and install Ledger Live

Official sources

Always download Ledger Live from Ledger’s official site or your mobile app store. Avoid third‑party sites and links from unknown sources.

Install the desktop app or the mobile app. On desktop, run the installer and follow in‑app prompts. On mobile, install from the Apple App Store or Google Play Store.

Step 2 — Connect and unlock your Ledger device

Connect to your computer or phone

Use the USB cable (or Bluetooth for Nano X) to connect. Open Ledger Live and select Get started or Manager to begin the pairing flow. If prompted, choose the correct device model.

Unlock with PIN

Enter your device PIN directly on the device screen. If you enter the PIN incorrectly multiple times, the device will reset as a security measure. If that happens and you have a recovery phrase, you can restore it; otherwise access is lost.

Step 3 — Add accounts and manage apps

Install apps via Manager

Ledger Live’s Manager lets you install blockchain apps (e.g., Ethereum, Bitcoin) to your device. Open Manager, then click Install beside the app you need. Each app is compact and uses limited device storage — remove unused apps safely and reinstall later as necessary.

Adding an account

In Ledger Live, go to Accounts → Add account, choose the currency, and follow prompts to search and import addresses from your device. Accounts are derived from your recovery phrase; they don’t expose private keys to your computer.

Troubleshooting & recovery

Lost PIN or device reset

If you forget your PIN or the device resets after incorrect PIN attempts, restore your accounts using your 24‑word recovery phrase on a new Ledger device or a compatible recovery tool. Never share the phrase.
